Area Dairies To Sacrifice Cows In NFO Milk Action
Area dairy farmers who belong to the National Farmers Organization will send part of their herds to an Erie County collecting point for slaughter to push for higher milk payments. About two of every 40 cows per farmer will be sacrificed, with cattle sent to a Greensville collection point, then to a Massillon Ohio slaughter house. The action, described as voluntary, aims to reduce milk in the market and boost prices, while other efforts to convert milk to cheese butter and powder are said to be succeeding. Colleague farmers in Crawford County also plan similar shipments.
