In Harrisburg a substitute for the Moul Woodring bill abolishing local milk inspection laws and creating a state standard moves through the House. The plan, backed by Sen. Leroy Chapman and Sen. Mundy, would classify milk and require inspections by the Health Department. Opponents argue it allows raw milk sales under local rules and would add standards. supporters demand a single state standard to replace many county inspections.
Four members of the Merman family perished in a four frame house fire in Bryn Mawr suburb after Charles Merman carried his mother and younger son to safety. Others, including Elsie Merman and two children, died as flames trapped the rest of the family. The father, a WPA worker, helped save his relatives but could not alarm neighbors in time. The cause remained under investigation.
Erie county employees of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board backed House Bill 909 at a meeting at F D Geiger 923 Westard Street proposing new minimum wages: 1380 for clerks 1620 for assistant managers and 1850 for store managers.
