Gidders Faces Murder Charge in Oil City Case
Oil City April 3 An information charging murder was filed Tuesday against John Gidders, a City resident, who is serving a term in the Western Penitentiary at Pittsburgh for a shooting here on June 18, 1998, of Walter Paviell, city sergeant of police. An effort will be made to have Gidders returned to Venango County to answer the charge. Detective Beatty filed the information in the Court of Alderman John M Mohr and an affidavit was issued. Beatty said he planned to seek a warrant for return before Judge Parker in Venango County Court. Gidders is serving two and a half to five years in the Western Penitentiary for assault with intent to kill at the August term of Quarter Sessions Court in 1928. He was sentenced September 10 and sent to the penitentiary shortly after.
