North Fork April 3 Eight miners perished in an explosion at the Keystone Coal and Coke Co. mine here yesterday. Several hundred workers were wounded or injured. The mine, recently sold to the Koppers Co. of Pittsburgh, had just been taken over by new owners. Victims named include J. W. Cochran John Preston Arch Frazier Walter Wade Fred Platser A N Sturdevant M Hull and Raymond Poole.
City Council heard a petition from East South Street property owners asking paving between East Street and an adjoining street this coming summer. New Bloomfield Pa April 3 Mrs Ralph M Magee and her three young children perished when their farm home burned early today. The father Ralph Magee and a four month old baby survived after the infant was tossed to neighbors from a third car window. The couple escaped down the stairway and the mother tried to reach her other children before the second floor collapsed.
The Presbyterian congregation held its annual church and business meeting after a tureen supper and social time led by Rev. R. F. Cressey. N R. Dickson chaired the business session as reports from church activities were presented. The late Mrs. H B Whittlesey left a thousand dollars for a church manse and a committee will report on suitable property to house the resident pastor.
