Erie County seeks bail bond reform in system overhaul
Erie County clerk Byron Clapper urges adopting a ten percent cash bond with return on acquittal or application to costs if convicted, contrasting with current full bond or professional bondsman requirements. He cites savings to defendants and county from quicker access to funds and reduced jail time, while a panel studies the proposal. A separate Montreal fur robbery reports $50,000 in goods stolen through a wall breach, with no further details.
