Syrian army officers in northern Syria rebelled seeking reunion with Egypt’s United Arab Republic. Mrs. B J Gaillot says an archdiocese letter warned of excommunication over her segregation stance. Archbishop Rummel has long condemned segregation and ordered end to segregated classes in the archdiocese next fall. Three people died and several were injured in a series of crashes over the weekend as icy roads returned. A Route 149 crash near Waterford killed James C. Baim-garter, 27, of Pittsburgh, who was a passenger when a southbound Hubbard car slid on slush and collided with a Drobneck vehicle. Hubbard, 21, of Pittsburgh, suffered injuries. Drobneck, 49, of Columbus, fractured nose and body bruises. Two others, Wickline, 31, of Pittsburgh, and Drobneck’s daughter Jean, 20, were injured. Earlier, in Warren County, an elderly Sheffield district woman was killed while trying to cross a highway, and a Youngsville man died in a three‑car crash with three others injured.
