Start To Drill For Gas And Oil In Lake Erie
The venture targets offshore drilling on the American side of Lake Erie, with a planned exploration start by April 30. Five sites will host 39 foot square pontoons supporting drilling platforms, aiming to tap gas and oil and bring potential millions to Pennsylvania. The state leases 35,630 acres, collecting annual rent plus one eighth of field value as royalty. Drilling will be at least half a mile from shore, depths from 1500 to 6790 feet, first well expected in about 90 days near the PA Ohio border, with another tract near PA New York border.
