Admiral Bernhard Bieri Discusses Mediterranean Affairs at Rotary
Rear Admiral Bernhard Bieri, Commandant of the 11th Naval District, spoke at the Coronado Rotary luncheon on reminiscences of the Mediterranean. He praised Genoa harbor clearance after WWII and noted allied help to Greece, Turkey, and other nations, stressing the need to keep forces in Europe to combat communism. He joked about an ancient tablet suggesting civilization’s flaws. Clarence Fifield, a former Rotary member, was welcomed, and birthday cakes were given to three members.

Youth Fund Drive Aims to Reopen Coronado Center
The Compass will forward subscriptions to the Youth Club Fund with 80 percent of each $2 annual subscription kept by the paper. One dollar per two dollars will go to the Youth Club Fund and 40 cents to either the Boys Federation or Girls League if chosen. The goal is to reopen Coronado's Memorial Youth Center for social and recreational activities for local youths.
