City council inaugurated the housing redevelopment project on Tuesday, outlining steps to convert housing to other purposes if needed. Serenado Chamber Announces New Directors Ballot

The Serenado Chamber of Commerce will reveal its new board at the December 2 meeting. Ballots listing 17 nominees were sent to members by the nominating committee. nine will serve as directors for the two year term. The first January meeting will include 12 holdover directors and officers chosen from the board. Nominees include John R. Robinson, R. E. Archibald, Henry G. Weston, Mel Edson, Joe Bollinger, Al Boileau, E Hansen, C. H. Soderburg, Cleveland Smith, Kenneth B. Carr, Roy Freeman, Maurice Makley, Dr. Wm. L. Coronado teacher and former naval officer John Rohrbough told the Rotary Club at Hotel del Coronado that education is the town’s biggest business. Funds Sought for Orange Avenue Christmas Decorations

Clarence Anderson for the Chamber of Commerce asked the city council Tuesday for about 2000 to cover a 5400 deficit in orange avenue decorations. The council will review possible funds at the next meeting after considering donations already totaling 3500 and ongoing Coronado resident contributions.

Scott Resigns as Planning Commissioner in Colorado City

Benson Scott, chair of the City Planning Commission, resigned Tuesday in a letter to the city council. The council deferred acceptance while seeking a withdrawal, but Scott stated Wednesday the resignation stands due to his business commitments away from Colonnado. Councilmember Neal urged reconsideration, and the motion passed. Scott served about two years.

R C Hoyt the landscape architect of Bai Diego was hired by the city council Tuesday for 350 to supervise planting of the center strip in Orange Avenue formerly used by street car tracks.

Garage Fire Damages Over $1000 at Local Property

A garage owned by Mrs. K A Berglund at 224 C Avenue burned Monday morning, destroying a cart and furniture. Fire department records estimate damage over $1000. Firefighters also battled a car fire at the Texaco station at Eighth and Orange Avenue with only slight damage.

Railroad Firm Opposes Annexation of Strand Property

San Diego and Eastern Railway objects to including its right of way on the Silver Strand in Coronado's annexation plan. A 50 foot center strip would complicate policing and taxation, and the railroad urged exclusion from the proposal at the city council hearing.

Christmas Seals Open 1947 Sale To Local Homes

Coronado residents receive sheets of 1947 Christmas Seals in the mail along with a letter from the San Diego County Tuberculosis and Health Association requesting support for the 1948 prevention and control campaign. The 41st annual Christmas Seal Sale runs this week through Christmas.

Christmas Seal Sale funds to aid Tuberculosis work

Mrs Stitt notes mailing is nearly complete but some missives will arrive late. Public sale booths will issue seals to those missing mail. Funds from the 1947 Christmas Seal Sale will fund early 1948 Tuberculosis and Health Association education and case finding. Seal designed by Raymond H Lufkin of Tenafly New Jersey, a noted artist.

Coronado Council Calls Radio Broadcast an Unmitigated Lie

Coronado city council denounces a KYQR broadcast from Nov. 10 as untrue alleging a police and fire shakeup. Two retired naval officers on the council denied any meeting with a councilman and the mayor said there has never been such discussion. The council plans to file a FCC inquiry and identify the reliable informant behind the rumor.
