Famed Campo fort-store raided by bandits in 1875

Early day photograph from Union Title Insurance and Trust documents shows Campo the fort-like store built by S and L H Gaskill. Bandits attacked December 5 1875. defenders wounded and three outlaws were lynched by unknown parties. County later restored the fort-store with Ellsworth Statler donation and help from local historical groups.

Coronado Woman's Club Sends Clothing For Scotland

The Coronado Woman's Club reports a strong response to its drive for clothes and packaged goods. The Welfare Committee supervised packing for Scotland with 125 women’s garments 57 men’s garments 120 children's items 55 pairs of wool socks 200 food items including rice and jello six quilts and blankets. Mrs A J Toering, now in Glasgow, will distribute the quilts and blankets among Scots people.

Margaret Deering Honored by San Diego Title Firm

Miss Margaret Deering daughter of Mr and Mrs William F Deering of Coronado received a feature in Title- Trust Topics from Union Title Insurance Trust Co. The 1940s Coronado high school graduate now works in San Diego as an escrow expert and noted horsewoman. She previously served as secretary to a North Island division officer and later as Red Cross assistant field officer at the Amphibious Training base in Coronado.

Coronado Telephones Doubled in Ten Years

In the Coronado exchange the number of telephones rose to 6549 from 3053, adding 3496 subscribers over ten years. M. R. Hebner, district manager, announced the coast-wide Pacific West growth shows a total of 3,659,000 telephones in 1948, about five and a half times 1938's gain.
