Coronado approves a 1948 budget of 483 675 up from 429 440 last year while the tax rate remains 1.80 per 100. Coronado reported a single street holdup that year on Eighth street between G and H at 11 p.m. Mrs. Marie Joseph of 721 Alameda fought off an unknown attacker who tried to steal her purse. Marvin Norman of 617 Eighth Street aided her and notified police. the assailant fled. Joseph sustained only slight injuries and could not describe the attacker.

Santa to arrive by fire truck in Coronado on Christmas Eve
Coronado prepares for Santa Claus arrival at 5 30 PM aboard the fire department’s largest hook and ladder truck. He will traverse Orange Avenue to the hotel then to the central Christmas tree where he greets children and distributes candy. The Coronado Rotary Club organizes the event with Alfred Laing directing community singing. Gen J A Woodruff (ret, USA) chairs the committee, aided by about 20 Rotarians. To manage crowds all visitors must queue.

Coronado real estate broker Nathaniel Gardner of N. Gardner & Co. was elected president of the Coronado Realty Board at a meeting last Thursday. Gardner, active in the business since 1914, succeeds Louis Millen, who served as president in 1946 and 1947.
