20-30 Club Dance To Benefit Coronado Hospital

The 20-30 club plans its first annual dance to aid Coronado Hospital. It will run from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on September 10 at the Circus Room, Hotel del Coronado, with Bill Petri orchestra. Tickets sold at local offices and shops including Coronado Compass and Bank of America.

Coronado Police Arrest Two Men On L A Charge

Coronado Police booked Melvin P. Baraga and Paul Gomes both of San Diego on felony charges after they returned a rented car to an Orange avenue garage. They were handed to Los Angeles police on a warrant with $2000 bail. Chief J W Jordan said they were traced by the car license number. Acting Sgt Ted Brandes and Officer O R Vosburgh made the arrest.

Missing Coronadion Squadron Receives Presidential Unit Citation

A Navy air squadron headed during the war by missing Coronado flier is awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for sinking six German submarines in the Atlantic. Cmdr. Charles W. Brewer led Composite Squadron 13 from March 13 to Dec. 17, 1943, before being declared missing in action June 19, 1944. his widow, Grace G. Brewer, lives at 541 Margarita Avenue.

Hotel Sued by Woman Writer for Alleged Injuries

Jane Janda, described as a writer, sues the Coronado Hotel for 25000 dollars claiming injuries in an elevator incident on August 6 of last year. She alleges head, body and limb injuries while in the hotel elevator.

Navy League Luncheon Aboard Iowa Off Coronado Roads

More than 200 Navy League members including Coronadans joined a luncheon aboard the U S S Iowa at Coronado Roads. The ship, Pacific Fleet’s sole active battleship, will embark NROTC midshipmen for gunnery practice near San Clemente Island before transporting 2000 middies to San Francisco after maneuvers.
