Council appoints Captain Ritter to unexpired term

Captain H. H. Ritter, U.S.N. Ret., former city council member, was named by the City Council to fill the unexpired term after K. B. Carson’s resignation. He will serve until the April municipal elections. Ritter heads the Coronado Residential and Floral associations and had been an occasional council attendee before accepting.

National Guard Recruiting Campaign Begins in California

On August 4 the 114 AAA Brigade of the California National Guard based in San Diego launched its first post war recruiting drive. The effort marks the first Guard program since activation in 1941, stressing citizen strength and democratic fit for a strong national defense.

Large Audience Acclaims Effort to Acquire Golf Course

A Coronado community meeting in the high school auditorium backed plans to keep the golf course land west of Alameda Boulevard for the city. Citizens pledged support and subscriptions as the committee proceeds with the acquisition plan and a Bank of America display shows a large plan drawing.

Coronado Players will meet Monday August 11 at the USO building on the Coronado Strand. No program is announced as preparation for the production Hotel Universe proceeds. Mrs. J. G. Andrews Ends Art History Lecture Series

Mrs. J. G. Andrews delivers her last lecture on Modern Art at Coronado School of Fine Arts VFW Building in Orange Avenue and 6th Street from 1 to 3 pm on Monday August 11. A subsequent August exhibition of drawing and painting by school members runs August 15 to 31, with enrollment opening September 2 adding two instructors Leonard B. Parker and John Zane.

The program runs from 1 to 4 p.m. and covers layout lettering advertising and production. Participants will learn practical skills in design processes and create sample layouts under instructor guidance.
