Governor Johnson is greeted with cheers and a large welcome sign as he arrives at the high school on Wednesday afternoon October 2. He delivers a brief talk praising California and urges moral living before closing with a farewell line.
The Corona City Schools introduce a school wide plan to improve spoken and written English. Teachers will track inaccuracies, notify students weekly, and adjust final English marks. Extra classes may be required. Miss Clark leads the Oral English class to aid the crusade for purer language.
Sophomores defeated the juniors 40 to 18 in a hard fought season opener. Juniors showed plucky effort despite great odds and promise another game. Corona Public Library donated a world atlas to the high school library for history map work. Walter Harris and Ray Marlatt took a combined business and leisure trip to Elsinore and Canary Cottage at the Loring theater.
At the invitation of the manager, chemistry and domestic science classes from Corona High visited the sugar factory in Chino. A guide led them through the plant from beets entering the dump to final crystallization and drying, noting purification advances and the era of purer products. The visit highlighted the industry’s processes and the American Sugar Company’s hospitality.

The Corona High School six weeks ending October 20 1916 lists many students in Section I including Mabel Arborn Paul Gleason Char lie Harrington Irene Nowhof Dauphine Page Viola Peeler Cecil Stewart Herbert Wood with numerous others. Also notes a public notice from October 25 1916 signed Victor Staley and a statement by Mrs Louisa Gleichner Poirier disavowing debts of her husband Rector Poirier.
