California voters defeated the statewide nonpartisan measures by a large margin and rejected all related proposals. Governor Johnson and party leaders attributed the defeat to opposition to nonpartisan government and to political enforcement of party lines.

Civic Affairs Of City Discussed By Women Club
The Women's Improvement Club held a meeting at 3:01 PM with focus on parliamentary drill and bylaw study led by Mrs. Root who presented a gavel as a gift. Parks chair Mrs. Hoss reported on planting a community Christmas tree and site options. The club approved delegating the matter to current hands and noted a County Federation social in Fairmount Park with eleven Corona club women present. The president announced the Southern District convention in El Centro November 9–11 with two delegates attending. A list of new members was read and welcomed.

Hunters Rescued From Icy Lake After Drowning Ordeal
In San Bernardino California Dr Price and two other hunters saved Mr and Mrs W M Adams and Mr and Mrs Frank Kelly from Little Bear lake after a 45 minute struggle in icy water. Misunderstanding over noise frightened ducks triggered the near tragedy as the party fought exhaustion and cried for help.
