Avalon Fire Wipes Out Large Area on Catalina Island
A massive blaze started by incendiaries engulfed Avalon at three this morning. The west half of the town burned as hotels and waterfront buildings were destroyed. Rescue efforts by the Banning interests arrived too late. the steamer Hermosa aided by pumping water saved waterfront structures. The Rose hotel was first spotted ablaze by a night watchman as guests fled in night attire. The fire prompted early news coverage and a continuation note on the auction at Pioneer ranch with British buyers seen among the bidders.

Oil truck driver arrested for speeding on Main Street
