New York November reports a grand jury charged twenty one directors and former directors of the New Haven railroad with conspiracy to violate the Sherman act and monopolize commerce. William Rockefeller Theo N Vail Robert W Taft and George Baker are named among the indicted with bail set at five thousand dollars each. Bench warrants issued. The case cites alleged consolidation of the nation’s transportation sector and mentions J P Morgan Chauncey Depew and Charles Mellen among figures connected but not indicted. One hundred six corporations appear in relation to the plan.
New York November 2 The Red Cross reported Kansas City per capita relief contributions exceed any U S city. The local chapter led by Mrs I R Kirkwood has raised over 47000 and expects 60000. Two additional units of three surgeons and six nurses will sail to Serbia on November 17.
