The Nelms murder case against Mrs Margaret Dennis and her husband Innes ends with their release on the murder charge while they face new theft indictments. The couple had been extradited from Portland to Texas after the disappearance of Lois and her sister. evidence included cash transfers and telegram receipts. The state had failed to prove the sisters were dead, and the case was dismissed.
The 1916 item reports Hearsh's sale to Elowitz and Elowitz moving across Main Street while Harry Sweet relocates on Main. It jokes about finding shops with police help or city maps and notes subscription rates and daily publication details for the paper at 110 112 West Sixth Street.
The case involved funds appropriated from Mrs. Dennis and the bid to extradite Innes to Georgia after Texas dismissed its case. Innes sought relief in the U.S. Supreme Court, citing threats from Georgia and fear of mob violence, but the plea did not prevail.
