The inauguration of Woodrow Wilson as the twenty eighth president drew nearly half a million spectators. The 60 000 person parade stretched for hours along Pennsylvania Avenue, and the oath was administered at 1 37 PM by the Chief Justice. Wilson began reshaping his cabinet and directing early actions on interstate commerce. If his speech and management continue, reelection seems likely.
A ten by six foot Boost sign for Corona is being painted by an expert and will be placed near the depot for high visibility to tourists. The design features the Circle City Grand Boulevard and cites Corona as the fastest and safest speedway and the largest shipping point of lemons in America. The Corona Chamber of Commerce receives praise for promoting local progress and improvement.
The Franklin truck from the Auto Club of Southern California visited this city Wednesday afternoon and headed to Elsinore and San Diego to install and repaint road signs. Manned by J Garey and P C Sprague the vehicle carried a half ton of equipment and a full camping outfit. The crew praised the sign service and noted the vehicle which crossed Death Valley earlier planted sign posts on desert roads.
Miss Whitel Scoville entertained Tuesday evening at the Corona County club with a whist party. Attendees reported a very enjoyable time.
Mrs Marion Jacques Brigger has been dangerously ill for weeks at her father’s Pasadena home and is slowly regaining consciousness.
A terse report cites Anahi district officials detailing an inquirien into irregularities reported in California. The document notes no arrests and lists no named departments. Further official findings are expected in a subsequent briefing.
A Get Acquainted reception at the Methodist church drew about 300 attendees Thursday night. Guests wore name cards on ribbons to introduce themselves as Rev Wentworth welcomed the crowd. The evening featured the church orchestra, vocal solos by Mrs Bates, a Palms piano piece by Miss Ethelyn Hampton, refreshments, and mingling until 1 0 p m.
F E Oster chairs the Publicity Committee writes from San Bernardino praising Independent of Corona for cooperation with the National Orange Show. He notes the 1913 event was a great success, disproving frost fears about the citrus industry and drawing generous Southwest press support. He offers continued service from fruit growers.
Twenty Philothea girls met at Miss Grace Davey’s home and escorted Mrs. Ralph Webster to a surprise shower. They presented a useful gifts collection and treated guests to sandwiches nuts pickles and fruit. The Baraca class added a rocking chair as a gift to Mr. Webster.
M. M. Nowles and Mr. A. Feure, officers of the Citrus Belt Land Company, were business visitors in Riverside on Monday.
Mr and Mrs F H Roberts were seen in Los Angeles Tuesday visiting friends and touring the city. The brief note records their appearance and movements with no further details.
Lake Elsinore Valley Press reports a team including Superintendent J A Crane Chas Hudson Monte Cambera and E R Gray visited the Ben White well in Temescal canyon. The well at 1730 feet shows red shale and pockets of gas, with 12 inch casing for 1000 feet and 18 inch casing for the rest. If drilling continues, oil potential remains favorable with Ful lerton shale similarity noted.

Miss Nina Beebe hosted the Junior Baraca class of the Baptist Sunday school Saturday evening at her home on West Highth Street. Guests included DeWit Yower Cathed Tower Frank Cross Davey Mick Clarence Husted Ray Frazier Adelaide Jameson Floy Gleason Josephine Medgarden Dr Grace Beebe McClellan George Rowe and Arvey Gleason. They enjoyed taffy pulling marshmallows and popcorn with piano selections by Frank Cross.
Rev. Reynolds preaches Sunday morning on God in Nature and in the evening on The New China. Tuesday bible readings cover the second coming of Christ. Last Tuesday meeting was well attended. Sunday school at 9 30. B Y P U at 6 30.
The Corona trustees approved Ordinance No 274 for second reading to broaden fire limits on Main Street between the Santa Fe depot and Sixth Street. The move blocks substandard cheap buildings and aims to improve the district’s appearance. The meeting also considered oiling street improvements, awnings for City Hall, and sidewalk grade stakes before Howard Street work, with several items referred to the proper committees.
