The University of Jena awarded a prize for an essay on earth's interior. The winner speculated a crust 930 miles thick surrounding a rigid core called the barysphere, much tougher than steel. The piece contrasts a older view of a 25 mile crust above a liquid interior and notes no one has returned from probing the depths.
Santa Ana Register notes John D. Rockefeller Sr. spoke on religion as an investment, urging daily deeds to cheer others. He framed religion as a personal incentive to do good, declaring the best investment is daily useful acts that aid others.
