A blaze likely sparked by a cigarette stub yesterday afternoon consumed about 30 tons of barley hay valued at 390 dollars on Frank Clapp's ranch, located a mile and a half southwest of town. F. A. Harding and crew fought the fire. baler saved but Walter Fanton fainted from heat and was unconscious for two hours.
Officer Frank Ewing runs an efficient chain gang cleaning Corona streets. The crew began with five Mexicans but now has three Mexicans, having cleared Seventh and Eighth streets and parts of Victoria avenue Washburn Sheridan Olive, and this morning Sixth street before heading to Grand Boulevard.
Vienna reports an inquiry into the deaths of guide Melounig and four tourists whose frozen bodies were found on the Gross Venediger Glacier near Gratz. The guide was killed by a blow from an ice axe, struck from behind. Authorities suspect the tourists may have killed him after he led them.
