Sixth Street objections prompt call to re establish city grades

At City Hall property owners pressed for H. Clay Kellogg to supervise street work and grade reestablishment citywide. A delay postponed the Sixth Street matter as engineers and the City Attorney discussed avoiding conflicts with contractor interests and storm water drainage.

Street drainage clears path to feed yards on First Street

The condition of First Street between Washburn and Belle was nearly impassable due to storm water, seriously hampering feed yard business. The Street Superintendent was directed to address the issue with adjournment moved to Wednesday evening the 23rd inst.

New Officers Elected Across Corona Groups

This week boards and lodges named officers for the new year. Corona National Bank lists Pentelow as president and Stoner as vice president with Terpening as cashier. First National Bank names Kinney president and Jameson vice president, with Key as cashier and several directors. Fire Department chose Cummins as chief and Miles foreman with Raney as assistant foreman. Odd Fellows Rebekahs and Circle Lodge installed officers led by J L Devis as Noble Grand with Dawson as Vice Grand and numerous officers named. Odd Fellows Hall Association elected Holmes president and Alden vice president with Gleason secretary and Barth treasurer.

Light Bills Blocked by Court Action in Crittenden Case

Judge Oster sustained the demurrer in J W Crittenden v A F Le Gaye. City Treasurer was enjoined from paying the city's electric light bills because Le Gaye sat on the board while holding an interest in the electric light company. Attorney Freeman said the court found no cause of action and public policy blocks any ruling.

How Mr Estudillo Arranged Patronage

Assemblymen Estudillo of Riverside and Johnson of San Dergo, brothers in law through marriage, sought to place their wives on the Assembly payroll. They agreed Estudillo would appoint Mrs. Johnson, while Johnson added Mrs. Estudillo to his patronage list. Both women now serve as committee clerks at four dollars per diem.

Stock Raisers to Organize County Live Stock Group

The Independent reports an invitation from Mr. W. Tripp of Hemet for Livestock Raisers of Riverside County to meet in Hemet on January 26. The gathering aims to organize a County Live Stock Association and discuss topics of interest to the livestock industry.
