Sacramento reports the first shipment of California ladybugs for the year arriving at the state insectary from Sierra field men. About 100 million bugs will be sent this season. Two thirds go to Imperial valley melon fields to curb cantaloupe pests. Harry S. Smith will study their effectiveness.

Chicago probes expose baby farms starving hundreds yearly
Chicago officials led by Alderman Willis D Nance launched a probe into so called baby farms after an investigation found more than five hundred babies aged four months to four years starved in boarding houses each year. Landlords charge three dollars weekly with most spent on profit and some houses as abortion mills disposing of babies for twenty five to fifty dollars.

The Cunard liner Laconia was torpedoed off the Irish coast with six American passengers aboard and twenty one American crew.
