The Jocal camp of Royal Neighbor held a Valentine social on Thursday Feb. 2 with seventy five guests. Queen of Hearts and four Maids of Hearts led the program. Guests paired by drawing paper hearts as an arrow selected partners for the evening. Proceeds from sales exceeded five dollars. County supervisors at their monthly session yesterday elected I B Collier of this city as fish and game warden and C O McLaughlin of Elsinore as bee inspector. Collier praised for likely good performance in his role.
Dr. Tucker urged ground squirrel destruction and the board empowered each supervisor to appoint an inspector for district extermination under a government officer's direction, who will arrive about March 1.
Chicago February 3 An extension of the period for which special rail fares to the Northwest was approved by the Transcontinental Passenger Association representing all transcontinental lines. A convention rate of 33 from Chicago to North Pacific California and Mexican points applies March 10 to April 10. A round trip fare of 62 50 from Chicago to San Francisco is approved for this summer in connection with the National Education Association convention. The Independent offers garden seed packets for subscribers who respond for seeds.
