The Senate votes 78 to 5 to back President Wilson in breaking diplomatic ties with Germany. Senator Works of California among three Republicans voting no. Some Democrats deem the measure unwise but support it to prevent foreign misunderstanding.
The Saxon Vestra Crown Point and the Peruvian steamer Lorton were reported as submarine victims. In El Paso a foreign attache praised Pershing's troops calling them the finest in the world after observing their regular drill and new warfare methods.
Jacksonville reports state crops devastated by three days of extreme cold. Vegetables suffered 75 percent loss while remaining oranges and grapefruit frozen on trees. Citrus fruit largely shipped, but overall losses run into millions of dollars, with vegetables hit hardest.

A party of Corona Rebekah lodge members attended the Riverside Rebekah lodge last Monday night for a class of five initiates. Mrs. Hattie M. Dunham the D D P was a complimented guest. Corona members listed include Hattie Dunham Nellie Cathey Ida O Hull Emma Nichols Mae Finley Mary Meyers Maude Stanfield Sarah R Kirby Cornelia Ye A J Nichols A J Nichols F J Dunham and Myrtle Sims.
The Southern Sierras Power company plans a $40 000 expansion to connect Corona Gas and Electric Light with its Alberhill line. The new loop will improve reliability by rerouting around outages, with safeguards via a San Bernardino steam plant and Edison collaboration at Colton. Construction on the Corona to Alderhill segment is set to start immediately.
A party from Corona traveled to Colton last night for an efficiency conference at the First Methodist church. Rev. E. Sampson of the local church gave the day’s address on how social service and evangelism can be received successfully. Attendees included numerous Corona residents and families such as the Thompsons Parsons Van Dyke and Newtons among others.
