California to complete coastal highway link by next year
The state awarded a 14 1 2 mile contract to Lemoor Construction of Los Angeles to build on the crest of the Eton pass linking Bakersfield and Los Angeles. The Bakersfield to Los Angeles segment must be done in 150 days, by May 22, with a 6 percent maximum grade and 50 foot curves. A separate 5 6 mile section in Orange county near San Juan Capistrano went to M A Construction for 35830 80. The highway commission also accepted several shorter completed units in Contra Costa Alameda Marin Kern San Mateo and Riverside counties and declared a 12 6 mile stretch between Nelson and Chico as state highway with bids due early next year.
