An old fashioned remedy Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound is sold at drugstores for about 50 cents. It promises to darken gray hair naturally and evenly when applied with a sponge or brush and repeated over a few days. It emphasizes cosmetic use and denies disease treatment.
