Two Whittier Boys Recaptured After Escape
Cecil Butts aged 18 and Ray Carmichael aged 20 from Whittier reform school fled Tuesday and hid in tall grass near a Chino ranch. Deputy J B Crouch captured them by 5 pm with a tip from Sheriff Wilson's office. An official from the school later took custody. officials warn they will face consequences for the escape. The Mildred Harding, 11, narrowly escaped serious injury when a loaded 22 caliber rifle discharged during target practice. The bullet pierced her large toe, injuring the bone, and Dr. Root treated the wound. She cannot stand on the foot for some time.
