A rancher A Robinson from the Citrus Belt narrowly escaped injury when his Ford stalled on the Santa Fe main track as a passenger train neared. Spectators at the depot rushed the platform and pushed the auto clear of the locomotive, averting disaster.

Police Remove Libelous Plate From Becker Coffin

Inspector Faurot led the removal of a coffin plate reading Charles Becker murdered July 30 1915 by Governor Whitman. The plate's inscription was deemed criminal libel and the action followed a church dispute at St Nicholas of Tolentino where a requiem mass was held.

Last evening Corona police officers led by Chief Ramsey marched in drab drafted uniforms and caps. Each officer bears a numbered shield while the city supplied the cap wreaths and shields. The officers ordered the attire to reflect an up-to-date force.

Newport Beach Fishing Trip Yields Large Bonita and Albacore

A party led by Norman Reeves with Albert Smith Ed Conover W E Gunn and Louie Larson visited Newport Beach on Sunday in Smiths car to fish for big specimens. Reeves returned with a three foot ten pound bonita while Smith landed an eleven pound albacore. Both fish fought hard during the outing.

Opening Day Hunts Draw Many Nimrods Across Districts

The rabbit season opened with hundreds in canyons and fields, reports of abundant rabbits, and women among the hunters. A misfire near the city caused no injuries. New state game laws split counties into districts, restrict spiked bucks and deer, and set varied open seasons from August to December across districts.
