New York April 11 1916 veteran baseball official John x Tener predicts a prosperous season across the National and Federal leagues. He cites countrywide prosperity steady fan interest and stronger club rosters as key factors behind an anticipated revival and renewed pennant races in 1916. He notes uncertainty over Chicago and Federal League talent mixing with the National League and expects a spirited race though not necessarily record attendance.
In Guantanamo Cuba April 11 the Marine Detachment of the U S Leaven York hosted a banquet for Gunner's Mates Charles E Wills and Robert Conroy. Marines presented gold watches to naval gunners as speakers hailed a new harmonious relation between enlisted men of the Marine Corps and Navy aboard ship.
The New York Symphony Orchestra under Walter Damrosch will give Saturday and Sunday concerts at the exposition April 22 and 23. Tickets at 1.15 cover both concerts with no gate price increase. Exposition pays 8500 for the two performances to sustain a high musical standard. Tommasino's Royal Italian band will play throughout the exposition, along with Dr. Stewart's organ recitals and Spanish dancing.
The 4th Regiment U.S.M.C. band performs several days each week while the San Diego Army and Academy unit camps on the Exposition grounds adding to daily programs. Sundays feature a sacred concert in the California quadrangle.
