Riverside State Fair Measure 15 Defeated

Sacramento report says the Assembly defeated the Murray bill to establish a second California state fair in Riverside by 41 to 31. If not reconsidered today, the Senate bill may face difficulty passing. Murray cites Southern California needs and farmer participation as reasons. Senator Kline’s Riverside proposal would add four board members and move to Senate committee review next Monday.

City Championship Tennis Draws Set For Weekend Play

Arrangements will be made this afternoon for the final two rounds of the City Championship tennis tournament. The Recreation Club's tennis committee will fix times for Saturday and Sunday and appoint judges for the championship events. Drawings will be held for the first round of the consolation tournament with semi finals featuring Charles Vaile vs Jim Coplen and Ed Birdsall against Jess Hill or Allen Ely. Birdsall defeated Art Power 6 3 6 3 yesterday. The consolation matches are expected to attract extra interest as many top players are not entered and results remain uncertain.

Officers Thwart Frozen Orange Theft Near Highgrove

Officers yesterday prevented the removal of frozen oranges from a dumping ground in Pigeon Pass near Highgrove. A foreigner was found loading oranges for market and reprimanded to replace them. State officials urged spraying dumping grounds with kerosene or sheep dip to stop unfit fruit disposal and warned arrests will continue under the 1915 frozen fruit law.
