Corona Unified School District board confirms the bond issue carried 3 652 to 1 074 and the state loan passed 3 488 to 1 194 in the final tally. Louisa Hammond reports the election results from the district canvass.
Elwood Chapman notes four Corona Norco contestants in the Chaffey Miss Ontario International Airport pageant. Sandra Walters and Marcia Bowers, both Corona High graduates, Kay Fleisch from Bemidji and Pat Satterfield now living in Norco compete for the crown.
Mayor Lawrence Thome will lead a tense Corona City Council in a 7:30 p m summit with Riverside officials at Corona Civic Center. Riverside lawmakers requested the meeting to set ground rules for the Alvord annexation dispute. Both cities seek to annex parts of Alvord, an unincorporated area northeast of Corona with noted industrial potential.
Corona police face stretched manpower as shopping centers lure burglars who use roofs vents and shadows to pry doors. Patrols and silent alarms are the main defenses, with efforts to station unif ormed officers on patrol noted as most effective. Riverside counters annexation attempts by Coron a with a plan to fence the area via a river valley hook and seeks to expand control over La Sierra unincorporated area.
San Bernardino California. Miss Corona Marlene Smith, 1963 queen candidate, headlines the National Orange Show events in Swing Auditorium. Forty three county and city beauties compete for the title with 76 foot ramps and bathing suit segments. Coronation set for opening night March 14 7 30 PM with judges selecting 10 finalists from 43 entrants and five finalists for the final crown and four princesses. Sheriff to crown another queen Dee Land.
The Farm Bureau in Riverside County will honor past presidents with plaques at the Norco event on Saturday. Cook Ceas and Fuller already received theirs while Cook of Coachella Valley and McCall of Hemet join the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.
City officials praised the response after Humane Officer Cecil Stahl warned that unlicensed dogs would incur a 3 fine. City Clerk Billie Dober noted 19 people had appeared since Tuesday’s article urging dog owners to license pets. Delinquent payments included 3 and 6 for tags with newcomers paying 2 for male or spayed dogs and 4 for unspayed females during a 30 day grace period.
A official says fines push attendance while many residents discover licenses are required. Stahl notes some people rebel against authority. One man explains he did not know a license was needed even though his dog stayed on his property.
Corona Savings and Loan executive vice president Andrew P. Walker was appointed to the United States Savings and Loan League 1963 Insurance Committee. The league represents over 4 900 savings institutions and co operatives. Walker, incoming Corona Chamber of Commerce president, was honored in Palm Springs for contributions to the industry.
