A proposed Orange County water district act plans to adjudicate water rights on the Santa Ana river. Attorney A. W. Rutan says the action aims to equalize rights upriver and downriver, with no immediate bond issues or big projects. The district would cover the entire Santa Ana basin and empower water development and conservation.
R. H. Mack, general manager of the 23rd National Orange Show in San Bernardino, says the 1933 exposition closed with debts wiped clean. He notes the 28rd show met current obligations but a full checkup is needed to confirm coverage of overhead and taxes. Continued on Page Four.
City officials refused to approve a blank insurance bill and ordered payment of 725.17 for the year starting today after a careful check-up. Earlier, the state department had proposed 1000, but Councilman H M Key challenged the estimate, prompting the savings.
Superintendent Glen D. Wight traveled 48 miles to post notices at the El Sobrante rancho area within Corona high school district and in Alword Temescal canyon Prado Eastvale Norco and Corona points. Voters will gather at Lincoln school to elect one board of education member as Walter Hill retires. Candidates Fr J Mueller and Frank Newsom have announced.
Tenia cap fashion revue features more than 60 local girls at Corona theatre with audience applause for selections Miss Corona Fashion Queen. Sponsored by the Women’s Improvement Club, the event includes spring wear displays for children and young women with several local businesses assisting.
Riverside and Corona Lions clubs plan a joint ladies night dinner at the American Legion memorial home. Auxiliary will serve at 7 PM with a program arranged by R. C. Reimer and Frank Bishop. About 80 covers expected. 46 or more Lions and their ladies anticipated.
Rev E A Drake pastor of the Congregational church offered the first open ing prayer to start a Corona council meeting. He invoked divine guidance and blessings on citizens and agencies during trying times, called out the unemployed, and expressed hope for world peace and tranquility. He stayed to watch the session.
The office of the superintendent of schools announced that Corona school district received the last half of state funds based on average daily attendance. The payment totals about $17,600, with $8,000 for the high school and $9,600 for elementary schools.
The city council accepted the deed of gift of the Joy Street settlement house building and land from Joy G. Jameson and sisters Adelaide and Eloise Jameson Mrs Hettie E Elmore and Dr Bernice Todd with a vote of thanks. The building will remain a settlement house for welfare work. Mayor Mackins praised the gift and councilman Healy concurred on the deed.
The Charles E Dixon camp No 121 U S W V will hold its stated meeting in the K P hall at 730 PM Friday. At 630 PM the camp and Auxiliary will enjoy a pot luck dinner.
Mr and Mrs P Ceremony and their son Bob sell Ceremony grocery at Third and Main to Mrs Leo Mayo of Santa Ana. They move to 1030 Chestnut Street in Santa Ana and plan a visit to Oakland before deciding future work, with Bob continuing as a court interpreter in Santa Ana.
Corona residents aged 30 or more are urged to attend a 7:30 p m meeting of the Corona Pioneers Association at Mrs Mary Tucker’s 902 Joy Street. D F Connell will preside as preliminary plans are made for the second annual Pioneers picnic reunion at the city park next May. Last year over 260 old-time Corona residents attended the park event. This year’s reunion will be more elaborate with added features.
A Rebekahs and Odd Fellows gala at the LO OF hall featured a pot luck dinner a program led by Mrs Frank La Batt and Mrs E Marzinke. Violinist Margo McCarty performed and Rev John M Barnhart spoke. Leaders club gymnasts gave a 45 minute mat work exhibition pleasing the crowd.
