California school text selection bill advances to Senate
Sacramento AP reports the Assembly approved a measure allowing districts to pick basic subject textbooks from a state approved list. The 45-22 vote sends the bill to the Senate but it is not expected to advance this year after a key constitutional amendment was rejected in an Assembly committee. The proposal by Assemblyman Victor V. Veysey would have the State Board of Education approve a short list of English, arithmetic, history and geography texts.
