Eight Camp Pendleton Marines were rushed to a hospital by Oceanside paramedics after suspected overdose incidents at two apartment units. Fire department crews found three unconscious inside one unit, another semi conscious on the sidewalk, and four more semi conscious in a second unit.
UPI reports Nath Bachnan a 38 year old customs inspector from El Centro faces trial on charges of taking payoffs to permit marijuana shipments across the Mexican border into the United States in Imperial county. Bail set at 350000 dollars for Bachnan and 250000 for Niguel Alaniz a 25 Calexico police employee indicted with the agent. Government says Bachnan was paid as much as 5000 dollars per load.
Alameda County District Attorney Lowell Jensen said Newton will be brought back to California to continue the preliminary hearing on murder charges for the 17 year old girl fatally shot in Oakland on August 6 1974. Newton fled to Cuba after jumping bail of 42000 dollars.
