The three thousand two hundred fifty dollar parkway removal plan on Victoria avenue seeks to clear giant eucalyptus trees and widen the street. The circle area gets five thousand five hundred for double seal coating and Buena Vista sealing repairs.
Miss Amina Rashad from Cairo is enrolled at Occi dental College studying economics for a masters as she tours the United States. After a Corona liaison at the Jameson home she will visit Wichita Ill and attend a seminar in summer before heading to Washington and New York.
Arraigned in Temescal Judicial district court on a check charge Mary Lou Brogdon also known as H W Bray formerly of Norco now in Sacramento was held to answer on her own admissions. She allegedly passed a 25 check at Seidler's Market La Sierra without funds drawing on Citizens Bank Arlington. She said she issued the check to get even with her estranged husband. Sheriff’s deputy John H Beld filed the complaint. The bad check date is around April 11 this year.
James Pauly of Emerson's store was elected chairman for 1953 54 of the Corona Chamber of Commerce Retail Division. Six new executive members Joe Copley Jr Dick Fare Hugh Bogle Raymond Harris Bill Railsback and Jay Moody were seated for two year terms to replace six former members. Existing board members E E Hammond Glenn Christensen Morris Hemphill Virgil E Wilson and Pauly will remain for the next year. The group discussed Hospitality Hostess Service a goodwill tour and a Dollar Days sales push and voted to skip July meetings.
The proposed city budget for 1953 54 outlines general government health and safety Sanitary Sewers maintenance recreation parks and library flood control capital outlay parking lots bonded debt and misc items. The grand total comes to 549498 in expenditures.
A farmer named Ledesman received a $25 fine with $15 suspended for a grass fire that burned 13 acres near his property on June 20. The fire was investigated by R. H. Banks of the State Division of Forestry.
The council approved a 25 dollar annual business license for Mrs. Dorothy Walters to run a hospitality hostess plan and to aid newcomers with city information. The County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the proposed zoning plan for the west Corona area outside the city June 30 at 3 p.m. in the Commission Office at the Court House in Riverside. The roughly three square mile area would be divided into residential commercial manufacturing and agricultural districts. Boundaries run north by Santa Fe tracks east by Corona city limits south by Rancho La Sierra Yorba boundary and west by Tomas Yorba allotment boundary. Local property owners in Coronta and Yorba Heights seek zoning to protect residential areas by limiting dairy and hog farms.
Coronans face a 1953 54 city budget totaling 549 498 with about half from property taxes and half from other sources. The plan keeps the tax rate around 1 50 per 100 val and adds a 40 hour week for police, boosting staffing and costs. A main outfall sewer and new fire station are listed as unfunded needs, while clerks and managers receive modest raises.

He also seeks a three month Asian political conference limit and a provision to automatically void the armistice if no settlement is reached. U S officials reject these terms.
American Sabre jets shot down six MiGs in dogfights over the east central bulge area in Korea. South Korean forces recaptured two outposts at opposite ends and pressed the offensive to seize M-1 ridge. Eighth ROK division pushed Chinese from Stepping Stone Hill as Red counterattacks were repelled.
Karl Smythe age 39 of 415 Main Street was treated at Corona Hospital after his company car veered off Fourth Street at Main and struck a stop sign and Herman’s Furniture Store. He was taken to hospital by Brown Funeral Home ambulance and kept overnight.
A grass fire north of the railroad tracks on North Main Street called out local firemen this afternoon as they battled the blaze.
In East Berlin last night a mob swarmed the Reds headquarters while in West Berlin memorials honored eight Berliners killed in the revolt. Adenauer pledged freedom for 18 million in the Red zone as eight coffins, one empty, appeared on the city hall steps.
