Blind Pig Raid Leads to Mexican Bootlegger Arrest in City

City Marshal G C Alexander’s December murder scene on Sixth and Howard streets was raided last night. A young Mexican, Gavianni Carrilla, was jailed for selling liquor to locals and whites. A suitcase and two gunny sacks of booze were seized as evidence. Carrilla fined 150 dollars or 75 days in jail.

Wanamaker Supports Labor Unions and Public Utilities

Philadelphia June 23 John Wanamaker testified before the federal board of industrial relations urging recognition of labor organizations. He supported an eight hour day or less and favored government ownership of public utilities to ease industrial strife. He criticized Rockefeller for sending troops to Colorado. The rising market will no longer accept being treated as a mat by the rich.

Mrs L L Andrews hosted a cordial afternoon at Vicentia Street for 28 guests playing progressive whist at seven tables. High score and first prize went to Mrs Frances Brubacher who received a china sugar and creamer set. Union Auditorium Erected At Eighth And Main

Work began this morning on a temporary open air auditorium at the southwest corner of Eighth and Main streets. It will be well lit with electricity and used by Corona churches for union Sunday services in July and August with pastors delivering sermons on alternate Sundays.

Constantinople June 22 Alfred Rustem Beydes Bilinski recently became ambassador to the United States and has drawn praise in Turkish papers after converting to Mohammedanism. He has Polish and British aristocratic lineage and previously served in Washington as embassy counsellor. The paper notes his past as a strike leader with the slogan no pay no work and recalls Abdul Hamid era punishments for dissent.

California Sailors To Get Shore Leave At Mazatlan

United States sailors from California ships will sail to La Paz and be allowed ashore at Mazatlan to obtain recreation after a long period at sea. Rear Admiral Howard will permit crew ashore while the cruiser South Dakota remains at Mazatlan. About 350 enlisted men from various ships prepare for entrance examinations for the United States Naval Academy.
