League tables show several teams with records and percentages across divisions. Yesterday’s results include New York 6 Detroit 3 and Philadelphia 6 Chicago 0, with standings listing Dodgers Cubs Giants Cardinals and Pirates amid tight pennant races. A final note mentions penguins behaving like people as a primitive bird-reptile ancestor reference.
The Navy Hospital knocked Lindy's from first place with a 9 to 7 win in a second victory in two days. Dickins pitched well for the Navy, while Max Diamond struggled for Lindy's, yielding six hits and a homer by Glowaki. Lindy's had eight hits, led by Bob Stark and Royce Ernest, who each had two. Ernest suffered a minor on-field injury after a spike.
Corona Athletic loses 6 to 5 in eleven innings to Long Beach Ramblers Sunday. Arrellano and Harvey pitched all eleven for the clubs, each allowing nine hits with homers by Ray Bega and Joe Uribe. Carlos Tatum joins Corona with two hits tying Bega and Abel Uribe for hits. Corona led 4 0 before Long Beach rallied with runs in the sixth, eighth, eleventh and fifteenth innings.
Norco Legion baseball dropped two weekend games. Hemet edged Norco 6 to 5 after a fourth inning rally and Norco won the seventh inning for the decisive run. Sunday Norco lost 2 to 1 at Elsinore as Henry Morey pitched seven innings allowing seven hits.
Drought relief efforts included plantings at Arrow head Lake Gregory Lake Jenky Lake Lytle Creek and the Santa Ana River in San Bernardino County as part of a Department of Fish and Game report detailing habitat improvements and waterway restoration.
Norco residents welcomed Bruce Corselius and daughters from Caldwell Idaho as well as W F Buckeridge party from Wichita Kansas and Los Angeles visitors. A Norco Grange Home Economics section will meet at Corona 1101 Victoria noon with a potluck. Junior Woman's Progressive Club picnic set for 1101 First Norco at 6 30 with potluck and family attendance.
Cub Pack 38 and families enjoyed a Green River Camp picnic featuring swimming games and a barbecue. Danny Davidson presented awards with Roy Sexton and Johnny Roth assisting. two Bob Cat inductions and several Wolf and Lion rank advancements noted. Sexton announced transfer to Camp Kilmer and asked for den mothers as three women volunteered.
The Joe Dominguez Post 742 meeting at 7 30 will elect new officers and mark the last for Commander Frank Rio who will relinquish the badge to the new leader. Delegates Pete Villa Frank Rio and Onias Acevedo will report on district events and Past Commander Night will bring seven past commanders together with refreshments served.
The Norco Valley Fair Home Economic section reveals exhibit rules and committee roles set at the June 16 meeting hosted by Mrs. B Hollis Barnett. Headed by Kirk Parmenter the committee outlines judging standards entry deadlines and new ideas including a visitor guest book at the department and a Tuesday meeting in the Community Center Fireplace Room.
Locals Mr and Mrs Don Burcher and their son Don Burcher Jr visited here during the past week with Mrs Burcher's mother Mrs Joe E Lewis and friends. Don Burcher Jr recently stationed at San Diego has been assigned to service at the Naval Base on Whidby Island Washington. Janet de Blois daughter of Mr and Mrs J W de Blois of 716 West Seventh Street is home from St Vincent's College of Nursing in Los Angeles for vacation and will depart tomorrow to serve as counselor at Azalea Trails Girl Scout camp for a month. De Blois is a junior nursing student.
Charlie Davis a 35 year old Negro laborer in Memphis uses a soldering iron scalpel and a nickel pencil to create Bible pictures. He has never taken art lessons and has been drawing carving and burning pictures since age ten.
The vacation church school sponsored by the Methodist Episcopal and Congregational churches opened this morning with about 75 children enrolled. An excellent teaching staff leads daily sessions and room remains in each department. Tomorrow juniors from grades three to six meet at St John’s Episcopal parish hall. all community children are invited.
The Ramona Ave home of Mr. and Mrs. W L Peeler hosted a family dinner Saturday for Mrs Peeler’s birthday and Father’s Day. Attendees included Verna Peeler Mable Anderson and daughter Donna Carl Bridges and children Vivian Lee and Bobby from Riverside Col C E Peeler and daughters Phyllis Virginia from Randolph Field Texas.
The Youth Fellowship of the First Methodist church will sponsor an old fashioned ice cream social on the church lawn at Tenth and Ramona streets. Homemade ice cream pies cakes and lemonade will be served from 6 30 to 9 30 p m with Mrs Al Hinson in charge of arrangements.
