A. L. Blakeley of Riverside County housing authority says Corona lacks an action plan for housing projects while over 30 percent of Corona homes were once described as substandard with poor sanitary facilities. The Riverside housing board discussed bids for Indio prefab housing and outlined postwar applications for Blythe Beaumont Riverside and 1100 other units.
Mrs. Violet L. Lawson of Route 2 and Edward R. Allen of 24 Ford St. Corona drove cars that collided yesterday afternoon at Severth and Victoria streets. Eight year old John Lawson, a passenger in Mrs. Lawson’s car, was injured and taken to a physician for treatment. Both vehicles suffered damage.
Ted R. Gamble, head of the War Finance Division, appeals to volunteers selling extra war bonds to beat the Japs and complete the European war effort. He asserts the creed My Money My Time stays in this war to the finish and urges personal determination to support the loan drives.
A group of local youths presented a radio style skit at the Corona Lions Club Ladies Day meeting at Hotel Springborg. The act honored retiring club president George E. McCauley and featured music by Gordon Hogan, emcee Karl Janson, and performers Peggy Gills Helen Emerson Yvonne Dupuis Jane Weirick Dale Genung and John Frazier. Proceeds from fines went to the Youth Center and attendance prizes were war stamps awarded to Mrs. Willis Colbern and Mrs. Roy Hoole.
War Bond sales hit 183000000 on Thursday in the Seventh War Loan drive. Southern California totals rose to 566950000 against an 11 county quota of 462000000. Only 62 percent of the E Bond quota of 184000000 had been met, prompting a call for renewed individual effort.
Mrs. O. P. Stapp of 1702 South Bristol street reports to police that while driving through Santa Ana canyon she lost a handbag containing $50 in currency, food ration books, and other valuable papers.
Japanese troops surrendered in southern Okinawa to U S forces as invasion plans for Kyushu and the Amami islands intensified. Civilians and soldiers gave themselves up while airstrips multiply on Okinawa and battleships plus carriers remain near the Sakashimas. Casualties listed show large losses for both sides and a grim note on a Japanese girl in uniform slain near American lines.
Organized labor groups including the AFL CIO and United Mine Workers denounce a Senate labor relations bill as a straitjacket that would cripple the Wagner act. They condemn it as an assault on free bargaining and a move to enslave labor through compulsory arbitration.

Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson said major war criminals including Goering Ribbentrop Hess and others will be tried in a single group before a military tribunal late this summer. The trial will be speedy with no appeal except history and may involve an Agro-French-American court if Russia balks at the four power tribunal.
