George Snedecor and Wallace Sutter of the Tri-Counties Advisory board plan a June 29 meeting at Lake Arrowhead to discuss the state tax issue and a joint effort to publicize Riverside San Bernardino and Orange counties beaches mountains and deserts. Invitations go to Chambers of Commerce lawmakers and tax officials. Justus Craemer president and Gov. Merriam’s private secretary may attend.
The Independent urges subscriptions before July 2 to boost workers in the bonus plan. Points are set for new and renewal subs across six months to three years, with changes after July 2. Workers must report to the campaign department on Wednesdays and Saturdays to stay active.

A radio message urged All American Legion members and Boy Scouts to report to the nearest Legion station for a practice mobilization. Corona opened with 24 men, 13 women, and 11 scouts arriving at the Legion Memorial home. Day Jewell, former commander and county defense chairman, led the drill.
Arlington and Corona Lions dens hold a joint dinner meeting at the Idyllwild cafe starting 6 45 PM. President George Wells leads Arlington with Joe Seymour Riverside deputy district governor expected to attend. The event strengthens enduring club ties and marks Arlington’s larger local membership in about a year.
A San Francisco firm finished striping about 500 miles of traffic lines in San Bernardino and Riverside counties at an estimated cost of 20000 dollars. The Pines to Palms highway between Hemet and Palm Springs is done and future work includes lines between Palm Springs Redlands and the Jackrabbit Trail. The process uses a four wheeled eight foot push cart ahead of a truck with hoses and spray plates guiding painted dots.
Many applications for admission were received for the Riverside junior college fifth summer session. The June 25 to August 3 program will include new mathematics courses taught by John I. Engleman, added to the faculty after five years at Poly High where he taught chemistry and mathematics.
Tommy Lawson a well known rural mail carrier has recovered from a kidney stone operation at Loma Linda sanitarium. Stricken April 24 he received widespread well wishes from his rural route customers during illness. He is on vacation now and plans to return to work July 2.
Prospective candidates file nominating papers for county and state offices ahead of the August 28 primary. County Clerk D. G. Clayton extends filing to 5 p.m. Saturday. John Phillips seeks reelection in the 76th Assembly District. A. A. James enters for Assembly, Riverside resident 24 years, and Moreno Mutual Irrigation head. Stephen J. Harban vies for sheriff amid a crowded field.
The American Legion executive committee decided last night to hold a dedication ceremony for the memorial stone honoring Civil War veterans now residing under the Legion Flag pole in front of the Memorial home. No date was set for the dedication.
Prices for New York area lemons including Sunkist Corona Beauty Red Ball and Domestic Standard varied with quotes from New York Philadelphia Chicago Pittsburgh and Pittsburg markets. Values ranged from about 4.25 to 5.75 per case with Southern Southland Beauties featured in several listings.
