Countywide tax delinquency rises with unpaid 61st installment and a possible 1.2 million shortfall. Major districts show higher rates while Riverside area cities report lower levels. Two month moratorium delays public auction of five year delinquent properties until August.
Birmingham residents pay an average motor tax of 75.79 per vehicle per year, well above the 45.28 national average. The city taxes exceed the national rate by 60 percent and account for 38 percent of assessed vehicle value versus 24.4 percent nationwide.
