The Red Cross unit unveils a cutting machine. O R Vanderhoof cuts 134 garments in under two hours from 67 canvas layers. The efficiency promises higher production, with finish work needed to meet Uncle Sam demands and daily garment quotas.
Mrs Carol McConnell Ott of the Citrus Belt Tract will speak to the Children’s Garden Club tomorrow at 10 am in the Library. She recently toured to San Francisco urging war gardens and will answer questions and instruct on next month’s garden work. Sixty war gardens are registered at the Library.
An American Red Cross canteen worker in France served 265 meals in two hours and a half, averaging one meal every thirty four seconds. The Red Cross supplied over 200 ambulance cars for the Italian armies within weeks of the US war declaration. There is one Indian Red Cross chapter at Belcott, North Dakota.
Rev W S Blackburn father of Mrs C E Byrkit died in Glendale Monday. Mr Byrkitt and family and R D Lamson attended the funeral where Dr Benjamin S Haywood of Riverside gave the obituary tribute. Blackburn began preaching in 1850 and served mainly in Nebraska Methodism, also preaching in California up to his 80th birthday. He often visited Corona and Corona residents remember him fondly. Mrs Burkitt had stayed with her father in Glendale most of the past month.
A fleet of twenty to thirty airplanes is expected to pass over Corona from March Field en route to Los Angeles for an exhibition. About two hundred aircraft are at March Field with two forced landings north of the depot and near Coplen ranch during morning flights. Aviators performed looping the loop, inverted passes, and nose dives before resuming their journeys.
The Civil Service Commission clarifies no change in starting pay for stenographers and typists in Washington posts, with initial salaries typically 1000 to 1200 dollars. War Department hires at not less than 1000, with possible raise to 1200 after three months. High salaries above 1200 are rare. Demand remains strong. experienced office workers are sought. During air raids and long range bombardments in Paris American Red Cross ambulances have consistently been on the scene for casualties. The presence underscores the relief effort amid sustained attacks on the French capital.

The Major outlined signage requirements and officials will seek suitable ground with community help to advance the project. The effort aims to bring Corona a noteworthy local attraction.
The Fish and Game Commission reports the 1918 hunting licenses have been printed in khaki brown and black and distributed through re sale agents with a 10 percent state rebate to retailers.
