Fire breaks out again south of Lake Mathews
A new blaze near Lake Mathews Gavilan Hills forced evacuations of about 50 ranch families and threatened thousands of livestock. Fire crews fought the Dawson Canyon Gavilan Hills fire as winds surged, burning 1500 acres, with a house lost and one firefighter hospitalized. Authorities detained two youths on suspicion of starting the Lee Lake fire. a Corona newspaper photographer reported the origin point.

Man Relieved When Caught on License Charge
A man defrauded the state by placing reflective red tape on a 1956 license plate and was arrested by Corona officers. Harry F. Young faced charges of false evidence of vehicle registration after admitting guilt in Justice Court. He had bought the car from a Long Beach dealer in 1955 and had not made payments since. He appeared relieved to be stopped, ending a year and a half on the run. Young will be bound over to Superior Court for Riverside County trial.
