In Sacramento, lawmakers rush to resolve a split over unemployment relief funding before adjournment. Governor Olson demands 50 million while Republicans push to cap at 35 million. Lieut. Gov. Ellis Patterson warns there will be no delay past midnight.
Mr and Mrs Pete Howe plan to open a bakery in the East Sixth street building west of the former Safeway location. Workers are preparing the structure while Mrs Howe, formerly Caude McGuire, is noted as a recently married local resident. Howe previously worked as a baker for Stanfield Bakery.
The Safeway Employers Association district hosted a Sunday event at Kellogg Ranch near Pomona for all store personnel and families. After a horse show, circus specialty numbers entertained attendees while a box lunch with ice cream and coffee was served. Over 1200 people attended including Corona guests and several local families.
Mrs. Jane Painter Snell and Miss Gwen Morton departed yesterday for San Francisco for the exposition. They will then travel to Reno Nevada, Mrs Snell's home. Miss Morton will spend the summer in Nevada with her sister and grandparents.

Shorty after midnight in Corona area Miss Duarylene Morey and Miss Marian Bald win were hurt when their car skidded and overturned on the pavement. Morey suffered back injuries and was taken to the county hospital. the others had minor bruises. In Temescal canyon near Lee Lake Dennis McManna of Los Angeles incurred chest injuries and fractured ribs when his car overturned after hitting a soft shoulder. LeRoy Aston, also of Los Angeles, was uninjured.
At about 6 Sunday evening, fire broke out in heavy undergrowth near the wash at the American Fruit Growers plantation. The blaze, if unchecked, could have swept toward the mountains and endangered a valuable watershed, but firefighters contained it with no damage reported.
