Mountain Blasted Open by 40 Tons of Dynamite Near Colton

A 2:15 PM blast by California Portland Cement Company workers near Colton opened Slover Mountain, dropping hundreds of thousands of tons of rock into a cement-making face. A Bright Young Life Called Home

The sudden passing of Edward Gibson on the 6th inst shocks his friends in the community. In just over a year he won admirers for earnest duty and active Christian life both here and Oakland. He leaves a father a mother and a brother remembered as the sister of F H Roberts. The Independent joins friends in heartfelt sympathy.

Col Roosevelt Sails for Home from England

Theodore Roosevelt sailed today on the Imperator for America from South Hampton. He declined to run for New York governor and said he recalls jungle fever from Brazil. The colonel rests in the imperial suite while his cousin notes a voice weakness and a longing for Sagimore Hill. He is scheduled to speak in Pittsburg on June 30.

Federals honor Capt Malpico aboard the California

At Mazatlan June 18 the Guerrero arrived with the body of Captain Malpico who died by his own hand after attempting to flee a sinking ship. Chiefs of the Guerrero spared the captives and the constitutionalists abandoned the islands. Mrs. H L Sayers and her husband traveled to Los Angeles for a two day visit.
