Sen George Deukmejian says he will seek a Senate override of the governor’s veto on SB 155 the death penalty bill next Thursday June 23 with hoped-for 27 votes two thirds. He notes no timing yet for the Assembly vote.
The Supreme Court upheld the death penalty for a Florida man who killed two of his children in a decision with a 6 to 3 vote. The ruling clarifies that the capital punishment statute in force at the time of the crime has since been struck down and replaced.
