William VanderPol secured a building permit for a 5400 square foot dairy barn and 1600 square foot house in the 1700 block Yorba Street Corona. Contractor A J Padelford & Son starts work as the city approved a variance amid earlier clashes over dairy farm zoning and odor concerns.

In Bakersfield California deputies found James Kemble 55 and his wife Gertrude 55 bludgeoned at their home. The case links their son Thomas Kemble 30 a state mental hospital patient as a suspect after he fled Compton. He was last seen on the run as deputies hunt across the state.
Jesus Cardena Hernandez known as Jerry Cardenas is bound for Superior Court on charges of inflicting bodily injury in an intoxicated driving accident involving Rex Bell Jr. near Wagon Wheel Cafe. Two passengers in Bell’s car were injured. Cardenas, 25, claimed a stalled motor, said he drank six beers, and testified without counsel at a Caudill preliminary hearing.
William Bender 48 a Corona native died suddenly Wednesday at his Beverly Hills home. He was the son of the late F M and Mrs Bender pioneer Corona residents and attended Corona schools as a 1926 Corona High School graduate. He worked as a commercial artist in Beverly Hills and was in public relations with a large construction firm at his death. Survivors include his widow two children and brother Howard Bender of Long Beach. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at Pierce Brothers Mortuary Beverly Hills.
Federal Judge Oliver J. Carter sentenced 13 members of a commercial duck hunting ring in Sacramento. The leader, Lloyd H. Landrus, 32, Willows, received an 18 month term. Other members, including Dick Murphy and Conan, faced multi month prison terms as the judge condemned the group for widespread violations and moral blindness toward game laws.
Senator Joseph R. McCarthy said he is proud of his Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with five clusters but noted their meaning has changed. A westbound Santa Fe San Bernardino local struck a flock at the Porphyry crossing near KBUC at 7 45 this morning killing 27 sheep and stunning many more. The herdsman failed to stop the herd in time and some animals were thrown long distances. Several sheep stampeded to the edge of a precipice but escaped injury. The flock is reported to belong to Gabby Quintana.
A car crashed into a Puente High School bus killing Mrs Mildred L Johnson 35 of Los Angeles and injuring her husband Fred 44 the car driver. Three high school students were shaken by the incident in Los Angeles.
