Coronans Graduate From UCLA in 20th Annual Commencement

A group of 1,490 graduates received degrees and honors at UCLA's 20th annual commencement at the Hollywood Bowl. Diplomas were awarded by President Robert Gordon Sproul and provost Earle R. Hedrick. Coronans Camilla Copley and Leo Durkin received diplomas in Letters and Science and Business Administration respectively.

Norco Grange Holds Thursday Meeting At Gardner Home

Crimean War Veteran Charles Longden Dies at 105

Brisbane reports the death of Charles Longden aged 105, believed to be the oldest Crimean War veteran. He served in the Crimea with the Royal Engineers and passed away in Brisbane.

Alvord Boosters Hear World Trip Speaker

The Alvord Boosters club with 75 members and wives met last week. E K West presided as Glenn Wilkins introduced Riverside guest Mark Butterfield who presented Mrs Mary Gard Jameson with a travelogue of her world trip. Ellis Lund and Earl Cook spoke briefly. The Alvord Farm Center met Tuesday night at the school with Olla Jenson as speaker and R E Weedon reported on California taxes.

Plans Made for FIDAC Dinner in Corona Memorial Hall

Mrs. Sylvia Feldman leads the Corona Auxiliary to W H Jamesson Post 216 in planning a FIDAC dinner on Tuesday June 20 at Memorial Hall. Adolph Whitney and his wife of Chino will present an exhibit from Slavic lands and Valenta of Los Angeles will screen colored moving pictures from Czecho Slovakia. Native costumes will complement the program focusing on peace and goodwill among allied nations.

Weather Affects Citrus Demand in California Valencia Market

In Los Angeles the California valencia orange market was lighter on small sizes with sales about 10 percent below last week while average prices rose slightly. Cooler weather and Florida oranges at lower prices reduced demand for California valencias. Last week shipments totaled 2848 cars, up 411 from the prior week. Demand for lemons remained good but softer amid cooler nationwide weather, with prices downward and sales volume near last week.

Widen Corner at Main and Ontario Improves Vision

The city widened the northeast corner at Main and Ontario to improve motorist vision. The corner was cut back and rounded, orange trees on city property will be removed, a sign will be moved about forty feet east, and the curb radius increased from 15 to 75 feet.

Fine Progress on Storm Drain Job in Corona

City Engineer A. H. Hanapel reports rapid progress on storm drain improvements in Corona. The project along Lemon to Ontario spans 2950 feet with only small sections unfinished, and 1245 feet completed at a rate of 120 feet daily. The work will raise drain height by two feet on each side, increasing capacity to 4800 inches of water and reducing flood risk after March 1938 flood damage.

River Underflow Being Measured At Prado Dam Site
