Verletta McAlpine 33 of Riverside is in Riverside General Hospital neurosurgical ICU after being struck by a pickup driven by Lori Barker on Sixth Street near Valley View at 2 23 a m. Deputies investigate the accident.
President Ford welcomed West German President Walter Scheel on the White House South Lawn with full military honors. Ford affirmed the United States strong commitment to safeguarding Western Europe and freedom. Scheel arrived by helicopter from Williamsburg, marking the first West German president to visit the U.S. in 17 years.
U.S. District Judge Charles R. Richey expressed serious doubts about courts ruling on the validity of President Ford's Nixon pardon. He postponed ruling on the Justice Department suit to dismiss McCord Jr. motion challenging the pardon as violating 9th Amendment rights and set briefs due by July 2.

A disturbance at the Crest Drive-in Theater in Norco led to its closure after juveniles fought and threw objects at the snack bar. Deputies arrived around 2 a.m. and called for Corona police and CHP backup. Theater manager Edwin Metcalf warned over the loudspeaker, but youths refused to leave, several were taken into temporary custody, the movie stopped, and patrons were sent home.
Corona High School hosts its annual senior awards night in the gym tonight at 7 30 p m. Over 100 graduating seniors will receive awards and scholarships in a public ceremony.
Guadalupe Venegas of Mira Loma reported his 1968 Volkswagen stolen from 1513 Mariposa in Corona. The car, worth 1000 dollars, was found burned about 200 yards from the theft site with ignition keys left inside. Several people were said to have driven the vehicle. no arrests by morning. The fire department impounded the car for investigation.
A 59 year old Corona man, Donald F. Evans of 206 S Buena Vista, was killed when the truck he was working under fell from four jack stands at an equipment yard at Second and East Grand. Harold Spurbeck found Evans after the incident. Evans died at Corona Community Hospital.

Key a Corona leader since 1910 dies at 90 after a long career in public service and business survived by wife Mabel children and grandchildren with private services set at St Johns Episcopal church. Also memorial for Donald F. Evans 59 owner operator of Don and Daves Trucking Company dies from injuries in a truck crash with services planned at Thomas Miller Mortuary.
