Variable Cloud Weather With Wind Gusts

The forecast notes variable cloudiness today through Thursday with gusty winds. Temperatures range from a noon high near 64 after a 56 degree low last night, with yesterday reaching 75 degrees. conditions remain cooler tonight and through the period.

Viet Cong strikes Saigon airport and Vietnam battles rise

Viet Cong terrorists exploded two bombs at Saigon International Airport wounding 36 U.S. service members and 10 others. In the ground war a Viet Cong battalion ambushed a South Vietnamese column, reportedly kidnapped a U.S. military adviser, and an American flier was killed with three wounded when guerrillas shot down a rescue helicopter. Air war saw 73 American sorties against North Vietnam with targets at Samson and Yen Phu barracks.

FTC seeks state AGs for nationwide consumer fraud push

The Federal Trade Commission plans to enlist top state legal officers in a nationwide consumer fraud campaign. FTC Chairman Paul Dixon told United Press International he hopes to roll the effort out by early fall.

Fulbright calls for Viet Nam negotiated truce

Sen. J William Fulbright urged a negotiated settlement in Viet Nam in a major Senate speech. He warned a complete military victory would cost too much and rejected unconditional withdrawal. He favored a pause to aid negotiation and noted the May five day bombing halt produced no response from Hanoi or Peking.

McNamara Plans U S Troop Build Up in South Vietnam

Defense Secretary McNamara said U S forces in South Vietnam will rise to between 70 000 and 75 000 within a few weeks from the current 54 000 with six more battalions in transit bringing ground forces to 21 000. Reports indicate South Korea will send a 15 000 strong combat division to aid the Saigon effort.
